Medicine

Medicine abounds with applications which are inherently spatial.  Therefore, the use of 3D graphics in simulations and models can convey spatial relationships between entities which otherwise be intractible to description using narrative text, or even 2D renderings.  The visualizaion o the human body is a prototypical example of use the use of 3D graphics in a medical capacity.   Biolucida is a system developed by Wayne Warren at the University of Washington which allows datasets to be visualized over the human body... sort of a Body-GIS application where the human body is used as a surrogate for the face of the earth, in a geographical sense.
